Monterey County at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Route Information: May 18, 2016 - Stage 4 Finish
Monterey County is world-famous for its majestic beauty, magnificent coastline, its golf and recreation facilities... and the world famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca located in a beautiful Monterey County Park, the location of the finish for Stage 4 of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California.
As the Tour of California comes through Monterey County, the riders will encounter the iconic Bixby Bridge, pass through the majestic Big Sur redwoods, once the riders turn east from the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway Route 1), they will enter Monterey County's wine region via Carmel Valley Road which extends further east to the Salinas Valley wine making region. After passing several boutique wineries the riders will detour from Carmel Valley Road over the ever challenging Laureles Grade, 2 miles of 10% gradient, wind and heat. Once over the Grade, the riders will turn west on Highway 68. Within a moment of being on Highway 68, the peloton will turn up the A-Road and into Laguna Seca Recreation Area and enter the race track via Turn 5 to complete nearly a full lap of the famous racing circuit... including the world renowned "Cork Screw" and a 9-story drop to the finishing sprint on the main straightaway.
